Really glad to see the old community trickling back in! [SMILEY :)]

I'm a long time lurker but have recently started working on my own raytracing/photon mapping engine.  Just wanted to say thinks to all of you who have contributed so much throughout the years.  Hopefully we can get a lot of the community and the knowledge back.

but yes, i sure hope they register ompf.net (as written in the title on top) or something.. if ompf.org stays gone

I would definitely like that, but as you said: let's wait until we are sure ompf.org is gone. It would stil be the best option if tbp returned; I would probably ask him urgently for a copy of the database though.

What mean OMPF ? it's a strange name... maybe the best will be to register a new domain and host it on one of our servers ?

We can also share the administration to some 'top level' users like Jacco, toxie etc....

Slightly better. [SMILEY :)] I want to get ompf.net, but it seems a bit premature; lets give it a couple of weeks. I feel slightly bad about taking over tbps work, he did an awesome job, and I wish we could go back to that.
We are now at 37 users, and multiple discussions are in progress. I'm very glad to see this, ompf is a great community.

Yes, but there are some other available domains... honnestly I don't understand what mean 'ompf' and maybe there are better name than this one.

Of course, if the original one can be back, its better, also because there are a lot of interesting discussions [SMILEY :-P]

I like renderdev as a backup option.  

I've been looking into options to try and scrape the old forum pages.  There is a tool called warrick, but it's not currently working and Google apparently will blacklist you if it thinks you are doing automated queries of it's cache.  It sounds like it may be available again soon though (and hopefully in a form that google won't ban).

I too would like to see an easier to remember name for accessing the board. Maybe we can take a poll?

no problems. depending on registrar, you can pay for 10 years or something if you want (and, i guess, more, too).
soo.. is there voting on this forum? i want to vote for raytracingforum.com (or .org, whatevr..).
why? because it's a proper understandable domain name, not some shortcut or random letters or anything. would allow it to be a bit more official. maybe a bit more professionally looking, too (esp. with an url shortener, which would allow something like "raytracingforum.com/Logistics/ompf2/Welcome!" to be the url of this thread.
maybe if we're bored, we'll find some shortener-domain ala rtf.ly or similar for the typing-focused users.

Let's move things forward and make it democratic. The first step would be collecting suggestions for a domain name. In the second one, we'll vote for the domains, and in the end the highest ranked available domain can be bought. I'll create a new topic for the suggestions and will add the ones by davepermen and a couple by me.
